Yoga for the non-spiritual

For many people the first image that appears in their minds when they think of yoga is a little old man in a loincloth sitting atop a stone pillar with his legs crossed and arms on her lap. It is probably sing, hum or got a look of relaxation and serenity on his face. I am not a person who likes to sit and I hate every moment I feel is wasted if the idea of sitting doing nothing all day was not something that I liked. I changed my initial perception that a lot and in this article I want to tell you about the personal journey that taught me a lot about the benefits of yoga for a very non-spiritual person.

The first yoga class I ever went, I spend a lot of time sitting in silence with bored expression on my face and thought, "It's so stupid." I listened to the instructor drone inner peace and harmony and balance and energy flowing through my body and I was close enough to never return. Then I got lucky.

One of the guys in the class was a professor at the local university and it struck me as a bit odd that a professor of biology would do this thing spiritual yoga. I had the opportunity and talk to him briefly. In fact, it took me aside and watch I looked bored. He explained that he had felt the same way when he started and then translated the instructors speak in terms of biology and everything was very solid.

It hit me like a ton of bricks. As I thought about it more I saw this a purely scientific. For example take the "energy" that flows through our bodies. Many people are turned off when they start to hear like that, but it is a very basic component of yoga. I replaced "blood" for energy and looked again the process of thought.

I know that the blood carries nutrients and oxygen in our bodies. I know that if our cells do not receive the nutrients and supplements, they become weak and we can become sick. I know that people can become sick if they have high blood pressure or low. The steady stream of safe blood is clearly a very important factor to keep us healthy. Of course, yoga was first used hundreds of years ago and then it would be arrogant to think we know everything about the circulation and blood flow, we certainly know more than the average Chinese peasant of that time. "Energy" is just a kind word that anyone can understand in the bloodstream.

Yoga stretches muscles and areas of our blood can flow more freely and bring nutrients to all parts of the body that need it. It is a good scientific explanation that I am very happy to accept. You can do the same with other "alternative" terminology that you do not when you hear the instructor talk about it. Inner peace, unity, calm emotional – it's just a very dressed up way of saying to focus on one thing – your blood circulation and health, it will make you or your breathing and the provision of life giving the oxygen it gives you. Focus on just this part that a small part of the day and make living healthy and your only goal. Forget what happens in the office because you can not do here. Forget what your husband or wife is doing or if children are bullied at school and concentrate on being you, being alive and being healthy.

Now the stress has been attributed as a major factor in more than 40% of all medical issues. Stress in a word is caused by too much thinking. This practice shows us how to leave all these concerns is something that we can think about later and leaves the brain free to concentrate on the fact all he has vital health giving functions.

It is strange that I did yoga more, I developed a spiritual side that I never had before. This is not a religious thing, but more a case of recognizing that my own health and well-being are important and worthy of a priority. Whether it's the same thing happens to you is to be seen, but if you have been out of learning yoga or give it a try because of all spiritual discourses, I can assure you that there are grounds science behind it and if you give it a chance, you may be surprised.
